The Operational Lens - An Introduction

I started my freelance journey almost two years ago from the time I’m writing this, December 2022.

(You can read all about what I’m up to now on my website)

That was when I decided I wasn’t messing around with just doing odds and ends, accepting whatever came my way, and selling myself short anymore.

I have value and bring value to others.

It was two years ago that I chose intention. Two years ago I pulled up a chair to that table and sat down.

And, if you’re reading this you’re likely either ready to do the same or already have!

Before that, I was… still a freelancer! lol. But I was a wallflower. I wanted to be at the table but thought I had to be invited. I didn’t know what I didn’t know.

It was like I was plucked from high school English class, put on a spaceship, and dropped off into an entirely new world in a room with a bunch of people who had such brilliance… and me – standing there on the side asking if there was anything I could do to support them.

Backstory –

I’ve technically been self-employed almost my entire working career, but I never understood what it meant or had any real goals to speak of. I was just working like and like most young people, just trying to figure it out.

Being self-employed does have some major downsides. It means planning for my taxes, insurance, and benefits without an HR to advise me or a company to take the taxes away so I never have to see them in my bank account.

It means everything is my responsibility. And my decisions and choices must be informed for my business, not just what I want (though they do go together!).

It’s the entrepreneurial world vs. the corporate ladder.

It was overwhelming and, to be honest with you, it used to scare me.

It took me way too long to figure it all out, and there were really no resources available to help me that weren’t trying to sell me something that wouldn’t apply to the entrepreneurial world and were far too expensive for a freelancer/solopreneur.

All that said, I was still luckier than most. I have many privileges to my advantage and I, thankfully, had a few angels along the way.

Now –

I’ve successfully invited myself to the table, am thriving, and helping businesses with their Operations in multiple ways. I’m learning and growing every day!

I’m very fulfilled in my career and the direction things are headed.

However, one thing I kept circling back to was the fierce want to share the lessons and knowledge I have with other Freelancers. Maybe if I did they can get it all figured out much faster than me, and I can put my luck, privilege, and lessons to good use!

So, here we are… taking the best next step to support my fellow freelancers, solopreneurs, contract workers – whatever you want to call yourselves!

Sharing with you my Operational Lens, my pro tips, my little lessons all to support your momentum and growth.

Why?

Because we all rise together. We all have a unique gift to bring to the table and this? This is mine.

I want to see you succeed! Your superpowers plus a little Operational guidance will help you get there.

This is your invitation – not that you needed one!

Welcome to The Operational Lens.
